Cupping Therapy

Lift, Release, and Restore

Cupping therapy is a powerful technique that uses gentle suction to lift and decompress soft tissue rather than compressing it like traditional massage. At Cove Bodywork, cupping is thoughtfully integrated into your massage session to help reduce muscle tension, improve mobility, and support the body's natural healing process.

Whether you're dealing with stubborn knots, tight shoulders, headaches, athletic recovery, or chronic tension, cupping can be an effective addition to your treatment plan.

What Is Cupping Therapy?

Cupping therapy involves placing specialized cups on the skin to create a vacuum-like suction. This gentle lifting effect helps increase local circulation, reduce muscle tightness, and encourage tissue mobility. Unlike deep pressure massage, cupping works by lifting and separating layers of tissue, making it particularly helpful for areas that feel restricted or "stuck." Research suggests cupping may help reduce pain, decrease muscle tension, improve circulation, and increase range of motion.

At Cove Bodywork, both traditional fire cupping and silicone cupping may be used depending on your needs and comfort level.

Benefits of Cupping Therapy

Cupping may help:

Relieve neck, shoulder, and back tension

Reduce muscle tightness and sorenes

Improve circulation

Increase range of motion and flexibility

Support recovery after exercise

Ease tension-related headaches

Improve tissue mobility

Complement trigger point and therapeutic massage work

Many clients describe cupping as creating a feeling of openness, release, and improved movement after their session.

Conditions That May Benefit From Cupping

Cupping is commonly incorporated into sessions for:

Chronic neck and shoulder tension

Upper back tightness

Low back discomfort

Headaches and migraines

Jaw tension and TMJ-related discomfort

Athletic recovery

Postural strain

General muscle stiffness and restricted movement

What to Expect During Your Session

Your session will begin with a discussion of your goals, symptoms, and comfort level. Cups may be placed in specific areas and left stationary or gently moved across the tissue as part of the massage.

Most clients experience a gentle pulling sensation rather than pain. Areas treated with cupping often feel looser and more mobile afterward.

Depending on the amount of suction used and the condition of the tissue, temporary circular marks may appear. These marks are not bruises in the traditional sense and typically fade within several days to two weeks.

Is Cupping Right for Everyone?

Cupping is generally considered safe when performed by a trained practitioner, but it may not be appropriate for everyone. Certain medical conditions, medications, pregnancy, or skin concerns may affect whether cupping is recommended. If you have questions, please reach out before scheduling.

Cupping at Cove Bodywork

At Cove Bodywork, cupping is never a one-size-fits-all treatment. It is carefully integrated with massage techniques such as trigger point therapy, relaxation massage, and therapeutic bodywork to create a session tailored specifically to your needs that day.

The goal isn't simply to add cups—it's to choose the techniques that will help your body move, feel, and function better.
